Eastern/South East camp with Belgians…..
27th July 2012
This week on the 24th, 25th and 26th July the ETTA Eastern and South East regions combined forces at a 3 day camp in Essex. The training camp was held at BATTS table tennis club Harlow which catered magnificently for the 30 players that attended over the 3 days. The training was organised by regional coaches Stephen Gertsen and Craig Bryant with assistance from newly appointed Southern Regional coach Aled Howell. We also welcomed 4 Belgian players from Nodo table tennis club in Antwerp, where the East/South East regions visited back in April to practice.
All 3 days had a fantastic vibe and players really made the most of the high quality training on offer, and the chance to mix with players who they wouldn’t normally practice against. On the 2nd day of the camp Scottish international Nial Cameroon attended to practice and share his experience with the youngsters. Former London regional coach Aaron Fennel also made an appearance on this day and his help was very much appreciated by all the players. A special mention to Maria Ingles for supporting with coaching, collection of money and camp photography! Thanks to Prakesh Kanji, Barry Cheer and Graham Frankel for coaching. Neil Brierley of BATTS again was as welcoming as ever and made all visitors feel at home. He looked after the Belgians all week and they showed their appreciation by buying him a bottle of wine.
On the final day of the camp a tournament was organised to provide a competitive element to proceedings. The winner on this occasion was Jared Patel who took out players from Belgium and South East before overcoming teammate Luke Walsh in a close affair. Luke himself played some fantastic stuff to reach the final with a notable win against Mark Scutts in the semi. The winner of the consolation event was Jordan Ingles with Ben Proud in 2nd place. 2 awards were also given out for the hardest workers and best attitude over the 3 days. The 2 awarded with prizes included South East player Viral Kanji and Eastern player Adam Jepson.
