Taking table tennis to the businesses
6th February 2012
The Team for the day alongside 2 Cargill employees consisted of reps from Cargill business, Greater Sport Charity and County Sport Partnership and myself, ETTA NW Regional Development Manager.
Last week was a very interesting day for me that I thoroughly enjoyed. I met up with some of my work colleagues from Greater Sport Charity & County Sport Partnership, who had arranged for me to attend with them a Sportmakers conference that was going to be delivered to employees from Cargill business, based in Trafford, Manchester. The idea of the day was to deliver 2 Sportmakers workshops and for myself to demonstrate how Table Tennis can be utilised in the workplace via the ETTA’s new product, Instant Ping Pong, with the strap lines being Anyplace, Anywhere and Anytime!! Sportmakers is a Sport England’s program that aims to target 40,000 new volunteeers who’s remit is to make sport happen, via volunteering 10 hrs of their time to making more people participate in Sport, whether it is, setting up an internal TT works league, motivating your friends to play Table Tennis every week etc..
As Table Tennis is so easy to set up, it fitted perfectly with the theme for the day of getting the workforce more active and encouraging them to keep fit and active, resulting in a happier, healthier and more productive workforce.
The photos below demonstrate the rooms the workshops were delivered to the employees and the employees seeing and having a go of Instant Ping Pong.
About 80 employees attended the 2 workshops and had a go at the Instant Ping Pong, with some of them pledging to volunteer in Table Tennis.
It is anticipated, that a follow up meeting will take place, with an actual Table Tennis session organised for those employees interested in Table Tennis.
I must thank Greater Sport for heping me to connect to Cargill, and for Cargill allowing me to demonstrate the IPP product to it’s workforce. I thought the day was a fantastic opportunity in helping me to take Table Tennis via the Instant Ping Pong product, to people outside the Table Tennis Community and hopefully within the North West there will be lots and lots of more oportunities for me to do this, which further on down the line, will help to create more people playing within workplaces, leagues and clubs.
