Veterans and Women’s British League
13th February 2012
The last 2 weekends has seen Halton teams travelling across the Pennines to Sheffield. The first weekend the Woodhead and M62 were closed with ice and snow conditions. The womens Veterans first team finished 4th in Division 2 with Jan Hodgetts, Karen Tonge MBE and Helena Dennett. Unfortunately the 2nd team despite strong performances in their first year finished in 6th place and may be demoted. It was a very international team with England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the team!

The Halton Table Tennis Club then survived worse weather conditions with 4 inches of snow and freezing fog at Doncaster last weekend to come through with successful performances. Playing in the Premier Division for the first time the team of Megan and Angharad Phillips and Fiona Dennett fought hard to keep their status finishing in 4th position. Megan finished in lead position winning 12 out of 20 matches and will represent Wales in the coming World Championships
The Halton 2nd team in Division 3 started the weekend in 3rd place but with some excellent results coming through to win the Division with Sue Collier, Sandra Ryder and Janay Gibson( photo below)
Sue Collier won Player of the weekend award from across all 5 Divisions winning 18 out of 20 matches. Meanwhile Janay won 9 out of 10 on the 2nd weekend
The Halton 3rd team of Paulina Orzechowska, Karen Tonge MBE, Helena Dennett and Corrina Bebbington finished 4th to maintain their status. Helena finishing 4th in the division averages winning 14 out of 20 over the 2 weekends.
