Hampshire Schools County Team Table Tennis Competition
‘NORTH OF THE COUNTY DOMINATE IN TABLE TENNIS FINALS’
Once again Hampshire delivered a fantastic County Table Tennis Final. As in previous years the competition was held in the South of the County at the premier venue for table tennis, Testwood Sports College, Totton. The competition was a culmination of hard work by the 14 School Sports Partnerships across Hampshire producing separate SSP events, sub County Finals and the Final itself. With the support also of Waterside Table Tennis Club that operate from Testwood.
It is estimated that over 140 teams from all over Hampshire competed in the sport this year, with these numbers having increased again on 2009/10 figures. The partnership work between the County Development Officer, SSP’s and Competition Managers has been crucial in achieving this numbers of young people playing the game of table tennis.
Over the 3 age groups the Basingstoke and Deane School Sports Partnership dominated, winning an amazing 4 out of the 5 competition categories! The U11 Boys was won by Kempshott School, in a rather one sided affair, beating St Mary’s 7 – 1 in the final. Oakley, again from Basingstoke won the girls primary competition, edging out Breamore School from the New Forest.
Basingstoke shone once again in the Girls section of the U13 competition with Costello School triumphant over Portchester School from Gosport and Fareham. However, the situation was different in the reverse competition for the boys, were it was Upper Shirley High from Southampton who were victorious over there fellow Southern neighbours Westgate. Not be out done however, Basingstoke cemented their dominance further with victory in the U16 Boys for Aldworth School, narrowly beating a resilient Upper Shirley High in a memorable final.
