Chefs & librarians battle it out for Ping! title
30th July 2012
On Sunday 22nd Ping! Brighton and Hove hosted its quirkiest of events seeing local chefs take on each other and a team of librarians each bringing their own weapon of choice from their respective organisations.
Local Jubilee Square legendary chefs and staff, Martin from Las Iguanas, Mike and Lezchak from Pizza Express, Terry from Shakeaways and Tum and Arpan from Chilli Pickle came out each brandishing a pizza paddle, paella dish, milkshake cup and tandoori rice fryer respectively.
A straight knock out tournament progressed to a tense semi final and some great points between David from Team Read with his 700 page Hard Back and Arpan from the Chilli Pickle playing with his rice dish
The final of the inaugural Ping! Brighton Frying Championships was an all Chilli Pickle affair between Arpan and Tum the two Nepalese chefs who had come out 10 mins late as they had been making their bats/ pans especially.
The standard of play was truly inspirational it was clear they had been in intense training over the last 3 weeks on the Ping! tables outside their workplace (but not on shift), with Tum winning 11-9 in the deciding game and earning himself a Ping! t-shirt.
Thank you to all who took part, it was a real show of community spirit in Jubilee Square and there was some really kind offers of Meal for 2 Vouchers to be used as prizes at the Ping! Brighton Finale!
